This painting was long requested by my uncle. And it was my first ever portrait painting!
I use the grid method for transferring my reference pic onto my drawing surface.
In the top left corner, you can see that I tried doing it with watercolor paints. It was going extremely well, when I decided to finish it off by spraying the top coat over it!😲 It ruined the whole painting. I had to start all over again!!
This time around I decided to paint it with oil paints and on a canvas. After going through many YouTube tutorials, I was brave enough to lay my brush on the canvas. The steps are pretty clearly shown in the pictures. As it can be seen, I changed the background of the painting multiple times. It was a learning process, I learnt the basics of mixing skin tone colors, and a few palette knife skills. After completing the piece, I also learnt that I shouldn't be using rose red for lips😂(I was teased a lot for that).
In short,
Step out of your comfort zone.
PS: After this painting, I tried painting several other portraits and animals. I tried to get out of the Bob Ross style😁.
Art materials used-
Watercolor palette(I don't remember the brand, it's a pretty old palette)
